L-Carnitine
L-carnitine is a vitamin-like nutrient consisting of the two amino acids lysine and methionine.  L-carnitine has an important function in fat metabolism. Fatty acids can only be transported through the mitochondrial membranes bound to L-carnitine. L-carnitine is therefore used both in connection with diets and in endurance sports. Athletes need fatty acids for energy use, but take L-carnitine also  to promote regeneration.
L-carnitine is mainly absorbed through meat (lat. carne: meat). A vegetarian or vegan diet, or other diets poor in meat, result in a , significantly lower carnitine muscle content and supplementary L-carnitine  intake may be considered.
